MINOR SURGERY
The practice offers a minor surgery service to all patients. Minor surgery procedures preformed include steroid injections, toe nail removal, removal of skin tags, cyst or moles. You will be referred to further care if the procedure you require can not be performed by the GP at the surgery
The initial consultation should be with the GP. If it is agreed necessary or appropriate, minor surgery can be offered following discussion regarding procedure. You will be advised by the GP to arrange a joint appointment with themselves and a member of the nursing team for the operation.
What to expect at your appointment: The nurse/Health Care Assistant will prepare both the patient and any equipment needed which is disposable and single patient use only. The GP will attend and obtain written consent and if necessary administer a local anaesthetic prior to the procedure being performed.
Following the procedure the assisting nurse will apply appropriate dressings as needed and the patient will be given advice regarding wound management and any necessary follow up arranged.
If deemed necessary by the GP, any samples obtained, will be sent to the hospital laboratory for further analysis and you will be advised to contact your GP for the results
Appointments for minor surgery are held at both Arbroath House and William Brown Centre.
