Repeat Prescriptions

To order a repeat prescription you can either

  • Telephone the surgery
  • Web based ordering
  • Send in by post
  • Call at reception

Patients who are registered at William Brown Centre (Peterlee) should telephone 0191 5691060 and select the repeat prescription service. The telephone line is open between 10am – 12.30pm and re opens at 1.30pm – 5pm for prescriptions

Patients who are registered at Arbroath House (Easington) should telephone 5270328. You are able to order prescriptions between 10am – 5.30pm

To use the web based service you need to be registered by the practice. Contact the reception manager to do this.

When you receive a prescription from the GP/Surgery it is in two parts: part one is the prescription you hand in at the chemist, the second part is referred to as the “tear off slip” and holds your re-order information.

Located on your tear off slip is your NHS number. This is located at the top of your tear off slip above your name. When you order a repeat prescription you may be asked for this number, but normally name, address and date of birth is sufficient.

When ordering a prescription you must identify your collection point, whether it is the surgery or a local named chemist.

You need to allow 48 hours (2 working days) when ordering your prescription.

Prescription Review

Periodically you will need to have your medication reviewed this is determined by your condition and the medication you receive. Certain medications need monitoring either by blood tests, blood pressure readings, appointment with the nurse or with the GP. This is to ensure the medication is still appropriate and working effectively.

To identify when you are due for a medication review you should note on you tear off slip two numbers in brackets under the name of your drug/medicine for example (1/3) or (4/6). The second number represent the number of times you can contact the surgery to order a repeat prescription without a review appointment. The first number represents how many times you have ordered your medication. When the numbers match for example (3/3) or (6/6) you need to arrange for your medication to be reviewed before you next order your prescription.

To do this,

Peterlee patients – contact the prescription line (5691060), and inform the clerk you need to arrange a medication review, she will identify what appointment is needed and transfer you to reception.

Easington patients – contact reception on 5270328, and inform reception you need to arrange a medication review.
