Using Music to Make Real Change: Joining the Global Music Advisory Board at In Place of War
I’m thrilled to share that I’ve joined the Global Music Advisory Board at In Place of War, a remarkable organisation that uses creativity as a tool for transformation in some of the world’s most challenging environments.
In Place of War operates in over 30 countries, supporting a network of more than 100 grassroots change-makers across Africa, South America, the Middle East and Europe. These individuals are artists, activists and cultural leaders who use music, theatre and the arts to foster hope and opportunity where it is needed most. Their work empowers communities, builds creative economies and provides vital resources to those driving real change on the ground.
The Global Music Advisory Board was established in 2020 and is made up of over 30 professionals from across the music industry, including composers, record label managers and executives. Together, we provide guidance and strategic support to help create sustainable music communities and initiatives in conflict-affected areas.
So why did I say yes to this?
Because I believe in the power of music as more than entertainment. Music tells stories. It preserves culture. It creates identity and connection where systems have failed. Sometimes, it is one of the only safe forms of expression people have. Having worked across artist development, music management, sync and media, I know just how powerful music can be when it is in the right hands.
This board seat is not just a nice addition to my CV. It is a chance to champion diverse voices, connect global artists and support new models of working in an industry that is still often gatekept and unequal. I’ll be advising on strategy, partnerships and programming, and bringing my experience in management, production music and social impact to the table.
I’m not interested in being in rooms just to tick boxes. I want to be where the work gets done. Where outdated systems are challenged and real inclusion, ownership and equity are built into the foundations.
This is that kind of room.
I’m proud to be part of this global movement that uses music as a catalyst for positive change. I’ll be sharing more soon on how we are building bridges between creativity and impact, not just talking about it.
If you want to get involved, support the work, or learn more about In Place of War, feel free to drop me a line.
Let’s make something better. Let’s make something that lasts.
